Pricey but nice
The Gatsby has a great atmosphere, shame the drinks are so expensive if you're staying in the bar - but the food and service in the restaurant is brilliant, really good for a special occasion.

awesome....
anybody that knows Berkhamsted well will know that the Gatsby is Great (don''t mind the pun!). the place is created from an old cinema from the 1930''s. it''s a local favourite of mine and i wish we had more like this in the area.

the gatsby situated right next to the rex, is a great place to go for a pre movie drink and a bite to eat. it is also a good place to go for a few drinks on friday or saturday night.

they also have some tasty bar food to nibble on. the whitebait and lemon mayo is amazing

Thankyou The Gatsby!! We shall be returning soon!

The "Great" Gatsby
Our family went there for my birthday celebrations last Thursday - What a wonderful place!! The food was fantastic, the building spectacular - it is an old Art Deco cinema and we were really well looked after.. i think by the owner - a bit of a character! Great pianist as well - Will def go back

We went for Sunday lunch last week. It was amazing! The staff are very friendly and happy to help, the food was fantasic. We had the steak and it was delicious! Cocktail and wine list was brilliant! We weren't going to go for lunch as we thought it might be a bit snotty, but it was so far from that! We went to the cinema afterwards and again it was brilliant! Best Sunday in ages!

The place looks fantastic but the woman behind the bar had a face like a smacked arse. She was really rude when i enthusiastically asked about the live music. Kind of spoilt it for us so we decided to go elsewhere. We did stop for a glass of wine in the bar and I have to say it was really nice.

I suspect the woman at the bar gave us a skewed impression so we'll definitely try it again some time.

The Gatsby is situated just below the Rex Cinema, and is really a wonderful night out, it is a very elegant bar, the food is fantastic although not on the generous side, and you have to have a big wallet to go here, it is rather expensive, both to eat and to drink, you are required to book for the resturant and it does overlook the bar area which on a Friday and Saturday night gets quite noisy. It is the place to go if you are dressed up for a night out, if eating you will often be entertained by the pianist, whom is fabulous. The staff here are great too. The bar area is very nice, the whole place is very modern and trendy, although expensive. A glass of wine is about £5.50, so if you are not careful it will cost you a fortune, the coctails are nice but be warned they are around £10 each!
